Take a Street Art Winter Wander
Street Art Walking (SAW) is a place-making project creating (temporary and permanent) public art spaces. It aims to enhance the current aesthetics of the city by creating positive art solutions to public spaces.
The project has stemmed from a visual arts project called ‘walkARTbout’ developed as part of 2010 This Is Not Art Festival. The success of the project has resulted in securing a number of public art sites on a permanent basis.
SAW wants the city to come alive with artworks, dispersed throughout the streets, creating a public art walk for all to enjoy, locals and tourists.
On the First Friday of the month, Renew Newcastle shops and galleries around the Hunter St Mall stay open late to launch their latest exhibitions and showcase new wares by local artists. This First Friday 1 July 2011 there is a cornucopia of wintery delight on offer including hot chocolate and talks with SAW artists Ben Foster & Tez in the laneways of the mall.
So come join The Winter Wander and be the first to hear about the latest Renew Newcastle projects and celebrate the unique public arts project with the curator and artists.
Meet at Renew HQ for a hot chocolate and chat with Curator of Street Art Walking before wandering down Morgan Street to Keightley Lane for artist talks. Stick around for birthday cake with ARThive, mulled wine at Make Space, Cold Murder at Tipsy Orchestra, $5 polaroid portrait parlour at Odditorium, and a sneak preview of The Woods.
Friday, July 1 :Winter Wander 5:30pm – 7.30pm @ Renew HQ, 3 Morgan St Newcastle, off the Hunter St Mall
