Our Work

Octapod is the key arts and cultural development organisation servicing the Lower Hunter region.

For twenty one years Octapod has been the place where hundreds of emerging artists, curators, arts administrators and managers have launched their creative careers and where dozens of innovative community led creative projects have found their feet and made positive change for our region.

Octapod’s values of innovation, sustainability, inclusion and collaboration continue to provide the backdrop to our services for artists, arts workers and community driven creative projects.

Capacity building programs for cultural producers

Our expertise is widely acknowledged across the Hunter region’s arts sector particularly in specialist areas of grant writing and the funding environment, the arts and cultural sector, community arts and cultural development, inclusion in the arts and creative project development and management. We have strategic relationships across the arts, business and community sectors to connect you and enhance your creative project.

Growing access and inclusion in the arts

Octapod is committed to building strength in access and inclusion across the Lower Hunter, and we work closely with organisations such as Accessible Arts to achieve growth in this area.

We designed and delivered inclusive Community Forums to facilitate cross sector dialogue around the significant social change presented by the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Octapod consequently co-developed new models of inclusive practice to build the capacity of the local arts and cultural sector to increase access for people with disability to participate and to provide artists with disability inclusive professional development opportunities. Octapod and Accessible Arts continue to work in partnership to ensure Newcastle’s arts and culture is accessible and inclusive of all.
