Octapod 2014 Program launched
As an organisation that supports a vibrant, diverse and sustainable arts community in the Hunter region, we strive to deliver a range of projects that build capacity within the sector, support artists to develop their professional and creative skills, as well as develop new ways to support participation in the arts by diverse communities.
2014 will see us extend our core projects, responding to and shaping our cultural environment. Octapod is passionate about the value of the arts in supporting the cultural and economic development of our region and we invite you to engage with our projects and discover what an amazing art scene we have here in the Hunter.
This is Not Art 2-5 October 2014
This is Not Art (TiNA) is committed to creating an experimental environment where artists can test and exchange ideas that belong outside of institutions. As a festival of multiple programs presenting dynamic and bold works, TiNA 2014 is set to promote a vibrant combination of voices that celebrate and seek creative innovation. This year the festival model will include distinct creative hubs in and around the CBD of Newcastle.
Culture Hunter is the Hunter’s online arts directory and information hub. Track down an excellent artist, sniff out an ideal venue or scout out events coming up in the Hunter. Produced by Octapod since 2006, Culture Hunter exists to showcase the diversity of the creative sector across the Hunter. It is the place to find out about the latest arts news, events and opportunities across the region. Membership of the site is free and is open to artists and arts organisations based in or presenting work in the Hunter region of New South Wales. www.culturehunter.org
In 2014 PODspace will operate as a pop up exhibition and education program. Octapod is working with partners to activate spaces around Newcastle, presenting four exhibitions featuring the work of emerging and established artists, alongside a public program of artist talks and/or workshops.
Creative Access Program
Octapod is working with the community to develop new models to support artists with disability, and support the development of inclusive arts and cultural programs. Key initiatives for 2014 include the Creative Access Network and Hunter Arts Worker Database.
