Nicole Chaffey’s formal education began at the Newcastle Art School before she consolidated her training at the University of Newcastle, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) degree.
During this time she has distinguished herself in local and metropolitan art prizes, not least of which were a nomination for the 2008 Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, inclusion in two Broken Hill Open Outback Art Prize exhibitions and last years Muswellbrook Art Prize, and most recently as winner of the University of Newcastle’s Wollotuka Acquisitive Art Prize’s major prize.
She occupies a studio at the Woolshed Studios in Wickham where her artistic practice bases itself around the Australian landscape. Abtractions of such consist primarily of large expanses of unbroken colour and subtle variations in tone against complex fissures and tracks. These explore the juxtaposition between the simplicity and unaffectedness of open space and the interference of the manmade.
For studio appointments and commissions, she is contactable at firstname.lastname@example.org.
