Barbara Nanshe has just reopened her creative retail space on November 16, 2017, with Taraba and Co in the heart of Newcastle. The Studio and retail shop features Barbara Nanshe’s unique and wonderfully Individual Jewellery, unusual sculptural assemblage and cards. Barbara has teamed up with jeweller Vanessa Day. Both are able to create pieces in the studio space and instantly transfer them to the retail space. They each make work complimenting the other and both have a love of wood and the environment.
Barbara’s work is largely made from recycled materials including Sterling silver, copper, brass and gold; found objects, antique pieces. Barbara will include stones and beads, some of which she has cut and drilled herself to bring power and colour to her designs.
There is a hint of wicker and Indian and Middle Eastern influences in Barbara’s style and designs. Barbara’s jewellery is individual and not repeated. Some of the materials she uses are rare and limited. These include pottery shards from 1700s to 1900s and clay pipe ends, found in the Thames River in London, dating from 1600s to 1900s.
An artist and sculptor, Barbara creates her jewellery in themes and collections.
Drawing and painting and collage are also a part of her portfolio. She produces cards from her original drawings and reproduced travel pictures and collages.
Hours: Mon., Wed., Thurs., Fri. 9am -5pm, Sat. 9am to 2pm or by appointment.
