Maitland Repertory Theatre Incorporated owns and operates Maitland Repertory Theatre at 244 High Street, Maitland (opposite Maitland Town Hall). The theatre presents six major play seasons each year, including an annual dinner show at the end of the year. Bookings for plays can be made at Maitland Visitors Information Centre on 02 4931 2800, 10am to 3pm, 7 days a week or via the theatre’s website www.maitlandreptheatre.org.
The Theatre is an unfunded group run by volunteers. It aims to entertain audiences by producing plays performed by adults, young adults and children while at the same time providing members with skills for life.
Auditions for plays are announced through the Dialogue Newsletter, by email, the theatre’s facebook page and on our website. The director of the play and an elected casting committee decide the cast.
As well as using and learning acting skills, many members use their talents backstage to help us produce entertaining plays or to help administer the Theatre for everyone to enjoy. In addition to our regular program of plays, the Theatre also provides an environment for a number of age-specific groups to train in the dramatic arts and perform on stage.
Acting Classes – This group caters for 8 to 21 year olds. Classes are scheduled on Saturday afternoons and at other times during the week. An annual play of 9 or 10 public performances is presented by the group.
Reamus Youth Theatre – This group caters for 16 to 25 year old young people. They meet on Monday evenings at the theatre. SPAM Evenings (Short Plays and Monologues) and major productions are produced regularly.
