Carl Young founded Stooged Theatre in 2003 after successfully applying for government funding and has been Artistic Director ever since.
He directed many of the early Stooged Theatre productions, including Retribution (2003), The Taming of the Shrew (2004), Much Ado About Nothing (2005) and The Good Doctor (2006).
In 2008 Stooged Theatre was invited by the University of Newcastle to collaborate with students on a modern version of Shakespeare’s 12th Night.The coproduction (adapted and directed by Young) was so successful it was invited to be the mainstage event of the 2009 Gloucester Shakespeare Festival.
Last year Carl adapted and directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Stooged, which played to great acclaim at the Gloucester Shakespeare Festival and Civic Playhouse.
In February this year Carl adapted and directed the L!vesites / Tantrum Theatre coproduction of As You Like It – performed in Newcastle parks for the inaugural Shakespeare in the Park Festival.
