About Creative Streets

Maitland City Council is working to brighten the streets and transform the built environment through creative initiatives. Creative Streets aims to fund creative projects to bring vibrancy to and activate Maitland’s streetscape. The program aims to:

Opens Friday 23 June 2017 and closes Wednesday 26 July 2017

Arts About Town is a chance for artists to engage with audiences at street level and challenge the boundaries of their practice with the street as their canvas. The program invites artists to create temporary and semi-permanent works for public spaces, streets and laneways across the city identified as being in need of transforming and revitalising.

The program encourages all art disciplines including, but not limited to, visual artists (including multimedia, printmaking, sculpture and textile), performers, filmmakers, storytellers and designers.

Key program elements

  • Funds projects ranging between $500 and $10,000
  • Focus on emerging and established artists
  • Targeting specific priority sites across Maitland locations listed (based on Maitland Place Activation Strategy priority precincts) and alternative sites presented by artists
  • All art forms are eligible for consideration.
  • Concepts will require consideration for the cultural, social and environmental context they are situated.
