This is Not Art 2014 Printed Program Advertising Opportunities
We are inviting businesses and organisations to apply for the opportunity to advertise within this year’s festival printed program.
This Is Not Art is a national festival of youth arts and new media that takes place in Newcastle each year. The festival features four semi-independent events: National Young Writers’ Festival, Electrofringe, Crack Theatre Festival and Critical Animals as well as several projects and special events. The festival takes place from Thursday 2nd October to Sunday 5th October 2014.
Audience research has demonstrated that:
• The largest age group represented at the festival was 19-25 year olds
• 25% of festival goers were Newcastle locals, 25% were from wider NSW and 50% were from outside NSW
• The target audience is 19-35 y.o. creatives: students, musicians, artists, academics, writers, performers
In 2004 This Is Not Art took out the award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Tourism in Newcastle at the Hunter Region Tourism Awards and in 2005 was named as one of the Hunter’s top cultural tourism drawcards. It was awarded funding from Tourism NSW in 2003 and 2007 as a Regional Flagship Event, in recognition of the impact and contribution of the event to cultural tourism in the region.
The festival comprises of close to 200 free events including panels, workshops, exhibitions and performances featuring the work of over 300 young and emerging artists – and each year over four thousand people participate in the festival.
The festival program is the official guide and souvenir for the thousands of people from across Australia who attend the festival – the nation’s communities of emerging & experimental artists, writers, performers, activists, media makers and thinkers. They come to the festival to connect and establish networks, to collaborate and workshop their crafts and enthusiasm.
Prior to the festival, additional marketing materials such as posters and postcards are distributed nationally. Emphasising experimental and emerging art forms our targets for breadth of exposure are the key institutions and local haunts (cafe’s boutiques, record stores, galleries and offices) of the communities which make up the festival. An additional 3000 copies will be distributed in Newcastle prior to and during the festival period in key locations across the city, to a local and visiting audience which comes from across Australia.
This year’s program will be a uniquely designed 56 page booklet detailing all festival events, biographies for each artist and a map of the festival precinct. There is also limited space (only 10%) dedicated for advertising in the program – an opportunity for festival supporters to demonstrate their connection and commitment to the practices showcased at the festival.
