Student Placements 2012 – Call for Applications
Octapod is also currently accepting applications for Student Placements, Semester 2012. Positions are available across Octapod’s key projects including TiNA 2012, culturehunter.org and various organisational roles. Student placements offer real-world experience in a busy arts environment in areas including marketing, communications, event management, urban planning and data collection. This opportunity is open to final year students at the University of Newcastle, Hunter TAFE and qualified persons looking for voluntary work in the arts. MORE

culturehunter.org is currently conducting a survey on local artists’ use of the Internet to ensure services on culturehunter.org are appropriately aligned to needs. We invite artists to participate in this survey and help culturehunter.org continue to improve.
The NEWi Awards 2012
The NEWi Awards is designed to celebrate the best online talent chosen by the members of The Lunaticks Society of Newcastle. The awards program has six main categories: Best Website; Best Online Publication; Best Online Creative Content, which includes images, animation, games, video and more; Best Mobile Application; Best Blogger; and Digital Citizen of the Year called The Joe Award, which recognises emerging digital talent.
Winners will be revealed before a live audience on Tuesday 25th September 2012. The deadline to apply is Friday 1st September. The awards presentation evening will take place during TiNA 2012 and will include a Reception and an Awards Ceremony. MORE
1233 ABC Newcastle is helping gather personal stories from Novocastrians for a special smartphone app that will be available for the National Young Writers Festival that will be held during this year’s TiNA Festival. The way the app will work is that you’ll be able to visit different locations in the city, and then listen to someone telling you their story. MORE
Archibald Finalists Arrive at Newcastle Art Gallery
Newcastle Art Gallery staff have been hard at work putting together one of the most impressive exhibitions to come to the Hunter. The Archibald Prize 2012 has made the trip from Melbourne to make Newcastle the first venue in NSW to show the exhibition. All 41 finalists will be on show.
Newcastle Art Gallery last exhibited the Archibald Prize in 2005, when Hunter artist John Olsen won the award. The exhibition will run until August 26. MORE
2012 Norvill Art Prize for Australian Landscape Painting
The Murrurundi & District Arts Council are calling for paintings of Australian Landscape in any medium or style to be entered into the 2012 Norvill Art Prize. The Prize is worth $21,000 and is one of the largest privately funded art prizes in Australia. Since its inception, the Norvill Art prize has rapidly become one of Australia’s most prestigious landscape prizes, attracting entries of exceptionally high standard both locally and nationally. MORE
