Each month we profile one of our members...introducing Bernadette Smith

Bernadette has been a practising artist and art educator for over 20 years and works in photography, painting and screen. She has a Master of Fine Art in Film from San Francisco Art Institute and a Graduate Diploma from City Art Institute, Sydney. Bernadette’s art practice includes documentary film and photography as well as experimental film, performance, art photography and painting. She has lived and worked for many years overseas and is now based in her hometown of Newcastle. While in Newcastle Bernadette has been active in the environmental campaign to stop sand mining in Stockton Bight producing an independent documentary which can be viewed online at http://vimeo.com/11105640

She is a founding member of Octapod's filmmakers collective and is currently working on a series of short social critique web documentaries which explore the impact of mining and unemployment on Newcastle. Bernadette also serves on the board of Octapod.
