This Is Not Art Festival 2009 wrap up

They arrived by trains, bikes and automobiles to attend and celebrate This Is Not Art's 10th festival. What a celebration it was! With a brand new festival club - 'The Mason's' This Is Not Art punters were treated to an array of unique, independent and eclectic performances across the 5 days. Highlights include the Sunday Zine Fair which was a hive of activity with delicious organic food, creative DIYers and enchanting singers. Over 26 venues around Newcastle came alive with panels, discussions and the highly anticipated evening gigs and performances.

This year This Is Not Art welcomed Crack Theatre Festival to the lineup and they provided the audience with Crack House frivolity. Mr Fibby was a crowd pleasure and Sunday's Playground invited the Crack audience to become part of the show. Also this year was the first year of a dedicated visual arts hub. A new space - The China Club - was a hub of all sorts of amazing art from around the country with everything from projections and plasticine to the crazy debauch Lets Paint TV of John Kilduff.

As always, ginger beer was consumed, cake was eaten, artists adventures were discussed and everyone left with a creative spur wondering if they can wait a whole year before gathering in Newcastle again.
