ART SOUNDS APPLICATIONS DUE TODAY 8 DEC

Applications close on Monday 8 December for Art Sounds, a new and innovative performance program linking Newcastle City Council (Newcastle Region Art Gallery, Newcastle Region Library, and the Loft Youth Venue), the Octapod Association, Hunter TAFE and the University of Newcastle.

SCIENCE ARTS LAUNCH 11 DEC

Octapod will host an event on Thurs 11 Dec, 6-8pm at 401 Shopfront on Hunter St to mark the completion of the Science Arts Initiative. This project has involved a collaboration between artists and scientists from across a broad range of scientific backgrounds including architecture, space physics, and chemical engineering. The project aimed to give the public an accessible window into the minds of scientists, with a particular view to science itself.

OCTAPOD XMAS BREAK

Octapod will close on Fri 19 Dec and re-open for public access on Thurs 29 Jan 09. Staff will be working reduced hours (or perhaps having a holiday!) during January. Thanks everyone for an inspired and creative year!

 

YOUTH TELL STORIES

FREE digital storytelling course starts 18 Feb 2009
Octapod will again be working with TAFE Outreach to offer a FREE digital storytelling course - this time involving the Cultural STOMP Festival and focussing on youth issues.

Electrofringe is looking for a creative, energetic and highly organised individual to work with the current Co-Director on the 2009 program. Application guidelines available from www.electrofringe.net  Applications close COB Monday 5th January 2009.

 The Electrofringe festival showcases digital, electronic and media arts with a particular emphasis on emergent forms and techniques. Focusing on encouraging interaction between emergent and professional practitioners, Electrofringe aims to create an open environment of exchange and peer-to-peer mentoring. It is part of the This Is Not Art Festival.

Octapod’s Community Media Space is now available for hire – at just $5
per day for Octapod members! If you need access to cheap, reliable audio and video recording and editing equipment, contact Christina.
 

1ST PODSPACE SHOW 2009

Podspace Gallery’s first exhibition for 2009 will open on Thurs 29 January. Titled “always…”, and featuring artists Michael Randall, Amanda Oakes, Emily Roberts. Showing until Feb 14.
