Expressions of Interest: Four + Four

Performance - Photograph by Justine Cogan Potter low resOctapod is calling for Expressions of Interest from visual artists for Four + Four, a mentoring and creative skills exchange program. We have developed a fantastic framework for this program and are now seeking funding to support four partnerships throughout 2016 between an established artist (the mentor) and a less established artist who identifies as having a disability (the mentee).

To help us prepare the best possible grant application, we are seeking commitment from artists to participate in the program, pending funding. If a successful application is made, all artists will be paid for their participation.

If you are an established artist interested in sharing your expertise and networks with another who is at a different stage in their artistic career or if you are an emerging artist with a disability seeking support and guidance from a more established individual, then this program is for you!

You will live and/or work in the Newcastle region, be interested in an opportunity to develop your visual arts practice within a supported framework, and have the time and commitment to be involved.

What’s involved

Mentees and Mentors commitment:

  • attend inclusion in the arts training and skills exchange workshop day
  • attend 2 hour fortnight meetings with collaborator (over a 6 month period)
  • attend 2 hour monthly peer support gatherings (over a 6 month period)
  • create artwork for an exhibition outside of these meetings
  • assist with curation and installation of exhibition as required

Project Background

The aim of the program is to support professional development for local emerging artists with disability and for established artists to develop their creative practice beyond their existing process. This program is for artists to develop new creative skills and experiment with new art-forms, to access space in which to work collaboratively or individually, to benefit from the networks, industry connections, exhibition and professional development experiences.
