This Is Not Art Festival, Newcastle 1-5 October 2009

TINA 2009.JPG

This year marks the tenth annual This Is Not Art festival and to celebrate we are going all out!

Music highlights include: raw pop collages of Ducktails (US), the lovable scuzzy surf punk of the Vivian Girls (US) and Ripley – a Cali based DJ/ academic just back from Jamaica, Susan Gray and the Katies – fresh faced and fashioned up direct from the sales in Melbourne, The Burning Brow (Brisbane), Bum Creek(VIC), don’t ask just watch and listen, and one super fine 1920’s style ‘big band’!

Upcoming zine-making events

The Octapod zine library had another sorting and cataloguing session during TINA and is looking a lot better for it. We are now having monthly cataloguing sessions, so come along to the next one on Saturday 14th November, 2 - 4 pm. No skills are necessary, just an interest in the zines. During the school holiday we ran some zine-making workshops for kids at the Newcastle library, where zines were made on a range of topics from the recent earthquakes to looking after dogs. Come in and browse the zine library any time, or use the space to make your own zines.

Upcoming zine-related events at Octapod

Zine cataloguing session: Sat 14 November, 2-4pm. At Octapod.

Zine-making events: Octapod (www.octapod.org) and Bird in the Hand zine distro (100a King St Newcastle, http://zines.wordpress.com/) will be holding monthly zine-making events on the fourth Saturday of each month alternating between locations.

Exhibition: Between You and Me

Currently showing: 'between you & me'. A video installation by Bryndis Snaebjornsdottir & Mark Wilson.
